Planning consent has been granted for Westwick Row, one of The Crown Estate’s housing demonstration projects, exploring a landscape-led, community-centred living in Hemel Hempstead developed in partnership with TOWN.
The project seeks to redefine suburban development, shaped through meaningful engagement with future residents and a brilliant multidisciplinary team, coordinated by Periscope as lead consultant, masterplanner and landscape architect.
On a 2 hectare site, with a challenging 9-metre level change, the masterplan makes room for so much more than housing: a generous sequence of gardens, places to roam and rest, shared community spaces, and a strengthened network of hedgerows that weaves the site into its wider ecological landscape.
Bringing together 31 cohousing homes and 44 rental homes, the project puts landscape, community and long-term stewardship at the heart of a new mixed-tenure neighbourhood. We couldn’t be more excited to see this scheme take another step towards becoming a reality! This project has been a challenge but a joy to work on for the whole team our thanks to the client team, local communities and Dacorum Borough Council for their trust and enthusiasm.
